Want to be a Realtor?
Second career? Good salesman? Part time job? I’ve seen and heard all these. Some are very successful, others less so. Truth is, Anyone can be a Realtor, because anyone can serve (to paraphrase Martin Luther King).
Second career? YES. Being a Realtor is a career. You must read people, you must help them achieve their goal, you have to serve in the full sense of the word. I rarely have seen a room with midnight blue paint on all 4 walls, but if someone wants it, I’ll help them get it.
Good Salesman? Define salesman. If you believe you’re here to sell what you have, then please stay where you are selling at, because I’d prefer you weren’t in Real Estate. If you believe salesman (or women as well) helps people to make the est decision possible, to help find their dream, to explore possibilities to find that dream, then you belong here. Real Estate is more than putting a sign in the yard. Preparing to move, finding financing, exploring neighborhoods, consoling children moving out of their first home. We do all that, PLUS the paperwork, hold opens, keep up contacts, education and more. Become a Realtor because you like people…
PART TIME JOB? Only rarely does this work. Lots try, some succeed, but mostly the PT’ers get frustrated because things don’t happen fast enough, and the full timers get frustrated because they can’t reach the PT’er. This truly is a career. The public wants answers NOW not when you get a coffee break. But mostly, if you aren’t working at it every day, then you “reap what you sow”, you get a small, part time income.
